Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2000
On Dec 11, 2000 the Water Resources Development Act of 2000 (WRDA2000) was signed into law by the President of the United States. (Public Law No. 106-541, of the 106th Congress) Title VI, Section 601, of the Act, describes authorizations specific to the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan.
The information below provides a general description of each Title VI component. Maps for each component are intended to present general or conceptual information only.
WRDA 2000 Provides:
Approval of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) as a framework and guide for modifications to the Central and Southern Florida Project needed to restore the south Florida ecosystem and to provide for the other water-related needs of the region
Authorization to construct four pilot projects (two pilot projects already authorized in WRDA 99)
Authorization to construct ten initial projects needed to provide, in the short term, system-wide water quality and flow distribution benefits as well as an adaptive assessment and monitoring program
Authorization for a Programmatic Authority to implement small restoration projects (less than $25 million)
Components of WRDA 2000, specific to Comprehensive Everglades Restoration:
Authorization for the remaining components of The Plan to Restore America's Everglades will be sought in future Water Resources Development WRDA's after completion of Project Implementation Reports (PIR).
The CERP design and construction efforts authorized in WRDA 2000 are estimated to cost $1,375,918,000. This amount includes funds for required lands and will be cost shared 50% Federal and 50% Non-Federal.
