WRDA 2000 Pilot Projects:
Caloosahatchee River (C-43)Basin Aquifer Storage and Recovery
Description - Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) is a major element in several components of the Comprehensive Plan. Due to the difference in the geomorphology and the potential for different raw water sources (i.e., surficial ground water or surface water), multiple aquifer storage and recovery pilot projects have been authorized.
Caloosahatchee River Basin
Hillsboro Canal (WRDA 1999 - see below)
Lake Okeechobee (WRDA 1999 - see below)
Purpose - These aquifer storage and recovery pilot projects are necessary to identify the most suitable sites for the aquifer storage and recovery wells in the three areas. determine the specific water quality characteristics of waters to be injected and the water quality characteristics of the receiving aquifer. In addition, the pilot projects will provide information on the hydrogeological and geotechnical characteristics of the upper Floridan Aquifer System within the regions, and the ability of the upper Floridan Aquifer System to store injected water for future recovery.
Benefits - Address the surface water, hydrogeological and geochemical uncertainties associated with regional aquifer storage and recovery facilities.
