Indian River Lagoon - South Public Workshop

Indian River Lagoon South Public Workshop

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, and the South Florida Water Management District, will hold a public workshop on the Draft Indian River Lagoon South Feasibility Report and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. The Indian River Lagoon (IRL) - South Feasibility Report recommends creation of new reservoirs, wetland-based water treatment areas, natural storage and water quality treatment areas, muck remediation, and artificial habitat.

These features will significantly reduce damaging watershed discharges into the St. Lucie River and Estuary and Indian River Lagoon. These features also provide water quality treatment, groundwater recharge, rehydration of historic wetlands, enhancement of existing impacted wetlands, and increases water supply for agricultural needs incidental to the ecosystem restoration goals.
